Subject: X Axis with slave axis run out?

The issue that we have ran to is that the X axis and its slave are not moving the same.

In 2 inches on the X axis there is .007 of an inch run out.

We are working now to see what the run out is on a cut of ~40 inches.

Let me put in some back ground on myself by trade I'm an embed system engineer. Working mostly with Microchip controllers and some ARM units.

Ok I have read most of the KFlop manual and have some quick questions.

1. How can I find out what programs are in the KFlop?

2. If I save and compile a program is it load to the KFlop automatic?

3. Is it required to flash the user programs to the KFlop?

Hi Tom,

Regarding:

Slave - Check the Axis Screen to see where it is actually being commanded.   You might try moving many times back and forth.  If the error accumulates then it is probably something like loosing encoder counts.

#1 - There isn't.  You must keep track of what is loaded into KFLOP

#2 - No.  There are separate steps.  Save, Compile, Download, Execute.   But there is a single button on the C Programs Screen to do all 4

#3 - No. If you are connected to a PC then there normally isn't any need to Flash anything to KFLOP as the PC app can just load/set whatever is required.  This makes changing boards, or upgrading Versions, much less confusing.

Tom

Thanks for the answers to the questions.

Next question

This is a 10 feet by 5 feet water jet cutting table.

The Y axis is 1 motor and a lead screw and the X axis is 2 motors and rack and pinions.

With the mechanics aside and with KFlop tuned correctly kind of accuracy do I can look for side to side?

Hi Tom,

The accuracy should be entirely dependent on your mechanics.  KFLOP performs calculations with very high precision floating point math.  The larger the mechanics the more difficult to hold accuracy.  Rack and pinion are typically not very accurate mechanisms and often have significant backlash.
